Working Principle of a Slurry Pump

 

          Under the action of centrifugal force, liquid is thrown from the center of the impeller towards its periphery, gaining energy in the process. It leaves the outer edge of the impeller at high speed and enters the volute casing. Within the volute casing, the liquid decelerates due to the gradual expansion of the flow passage, converting part of its kinetic energy into static pressure. Finally, it flows into the discharge pipe at elevated pressure and is delivered to the required destination. As liquid flows from the center to the periphery of the impeller, a partial vacuum is created at the impeller center. Since the pressure above the liquid level in the supply tank is greater than the pressure at the pump inlet, liquid is continuously forced into the impeller.
